2020 Subaru Outback vs 2020 Ford Escape

Serving Charlottesville, VA

In 2020, the Subaru Outback gets a full design change that makes it even more appealing and impressive than before. Along with its confidence in a new appearance, the Outback receives some notable interior updates as well. Subaru, a recognized leader in the fields of safety and technology, gives the Outback even more features in both categories this year than before. Now, you have a choice of several engines as well to give your Outback the power and performance that suits your needs and lifestyle. The Outback is available in several trims, and each one offers excellent value with several standard features. One vehicle that the Outback competes with is the 2020 Ford Escape. Even though the Escape gets a design change this year too, it doesn't offer the same bold styling, rugged design, and technology that you get with the Outback.

Although the Outback is wrapped up in a prettier package this year, it still offers the same impressive performance capabilities as it has been known for in the past. In fact, with two new engines, the Outback provides even more power options in 2020 than before. The base engine, which is standard on the lower-level trims, is a 2.5L with four cylinders. This engine produces 182 HP and 176 LB-FT of torque. On other models, you can upgrade to a 2.4L engine with four cylinders. This engine adds in a turbo charge for an extra boost of power. This engine's power output increases to 260 HP and 277 LB-FT of torque. Both engines are connected to an automatic transmission, and both get all-wheel drive. With the 2020 Escape, the maximum power available with the engines are 181 HP for the base engine and 200 HP for the advanced engine. Both fall short of what the Outback offers.

Front to back, the Outback's sleek new design turns heads. The Outback comes with powerful LED lights that give it a brighter appearance and add to its safety profile. A high ground clearance, which is a notable feature of many Subaru models, means that the Outback is ready for adventure wherever you want to go. Roof rails add style and function. Despite its updated appearance, the 2020 Escape does not have the same rugged exterior amenities and design or as much ground clearance as the 2020 Subaru Outback.

Safety and Technology

Every trim level of the 2020 Outback has plenty of safety tools and technology. Advanced driver-assist safety aids are standard starting with the base level, which is a rarity among many Automakers. This is true for the 2020 Ford Escape, which only provides a few safety features at the entry-level. With the Escape, you have to pay more for many amenities that are standard on the Outback, including adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning. The Subaru Outback comes standard with a seven-inch infotainment screen that has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a larger 11.6-inch screen is available. The Escape only provides one eight-inch infotainment display.
