Serving Charlottesville, VA

Are you debating between buying a new Subaru Outback or Subaru Ascent soon? As midsize SUVs with substantial performance capabilities, these models have many similarities. However, the Outback is a slightly smaller model with two rows of seats, and the larger Ascent has three rows. What are some of the many other differences you should pay attention to as you prepare to make your selection? You can count on our Umansky Subaru sales associates to assist with your research on the options.

Performance

If you prefer to drive the Outback, you will have two powertrains available to choose from. The starting powertrain is a four-cylinder, 2.5-liter, 182-horsepower engine. It is associated with all-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission. The Outback’s other powertrain is a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder, 260-horsepower engine. It also is paired with an all-wheel drive and a CVT. The Ascent is offered with one powertrain, and it is the same 260-horsepower engine that is available in the Outback.

Appearance

While the 2022 Outback is an SUV, it has a hatchback-style wagon's sleek, aerodynamic flow. Its tall ground clearance and thick molding add to its functionality in all types of driving conditions. The Outback’s nose shows off a skid plate, extended LED headlights, and tall foglights. The 2022 Ascent is a taller vehicle with a flat top and a short, tapered hood. While black molding runs from bumper to bumper on the Ascent, it expands over the door panels. The Ascent also displays larger headlamps and round foglights.

Features

There are various trim-specific differences between the Outback and the Ascent trims. However, the primary difference is the seating configuration between these models. These Subaru SUVs offer heated seats at various trims, a multi-zone climate management system, a touch display screen, keyless entry, USB ports, EyeSight safety aids, smart device connections, and a keyless ignition.
