With Subaru’s reputation for producing rugged yet modern vehicles, you can feel confident that the lineup holds something that is well-suited for your active lifestyle. Often, the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek and the 2023 Outback are compared to each other. They may initially appear to be comparable in many ways, but there are key differences between them. For example, the Crosstrek is a subcompact crossover while the Outback is a midsize crossover with wagon-like tendencies. What are the other defining aspects of these popular Subaru models?

The Subaru Crosstrek Base and Premium trims have a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter, 152-horsepower engine with a six-speed manual transmission. The Crosstrek’s Sport and Limited trims have a CVT with a 182-horsepower, 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. A 2.0-liter PHEV is also available and offers 148 combined horsepower. All trims have all-wheel drive. The 2023 Subaru Outback is equipped with the same 182-horsepower engine in seven of its nine trims. However, the Outback Wilderness and XT trims have a 260-horsepower, 2.4-liter turbo, four-cylinder engine. These powertrains are both combined with a continuously variable transmission and have an all-wheel drivetrain.

The 2023 Crosstrek’s exterior is both sleek and rugged. This is a smaller crossover that is defined by an aerodynamic profile and a combination of straight and angled accents on the door panels. The small grille and lower fascia have a metal-on-black color scheme. The large, slanted headlights have a striking LED bar that adds personality to the Crosstrek. The 2023 Outback has a forward-leaning profile with thicker molding across the bumpers, wheel wells, and lower door panels. The grille is larger and displays a unique mesh pattern. The Outback’s headlights are angled and partially framed by an LED light bar.

You will discover a variety of interior and safety features loaded into both models, including many of the same features. In fact, the 2023 Crosstrek and the 2023 Outback are offered with an integrated navigation system, rear auto braking, leather material, a Harman Kardon audio system, a blind-spot monitor, a rear traffic sensor, keyless entry, heated front seats, Starlink and other equipment. If you opt for the 2023 Outback, you could select a trim with a few extra features. Some of these may include water-repellent faux leather material, a digital rear mirror, heated rear seats, and more.
