For example, the Crosstrek is a subcompact crossover while the Outback is a midsize crossover with wagon-like tendencies. What are the other defining aspects of these popular Subaru models?
Performance
The Subaru Crosstrek Base and Premium trims have a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter, 152-horsepower engine with a six-speed manual transmission. The Crosstrek’s Sport and Limited trims have a CVT with a 182-horsepower, 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. A 2.0-liter PHEV is also available and offers 148 combined horsepower. All trims have all-wheel drive. The 2023 Subaru Outback is equipped with the same 182-horsepower engine in seven of its nine trims. However, the Outback Wilderness and XT trims have a 260-horsepower, 2.4-liter turbo, four-cylinder engine. These powertrains are both combined with a continuously variable transmission and have an all-wheel drivetrain.
Appearance
The 2023 Crosstrek’s exterior is both sleek and rugged. This is a smaller crossover that is defined by an aerodynamic profile and a combination of straight and angled accents on the door panels. The small grille and lower fascia have a metal-on-black color scheme. The large, slanted headlights have a striking LED bar that adds personality to the Crosstrek. The 2023 Outback has a forward-leaning profile with thicker molding across the bumpers, wheel wells, and lower door panels. The grille is larger and displays a unique mesh pattern. The Outback’s headlights are angled and partially framed by an LED light bar.
