The Haven is a low-barrier multi-resource day shelter and housing resource center located in downtown Charlottesville, VA. The Haven opens its doors every morning, 365 days of the year, offering a safe, welcoming place where community members can eat a healthy meal, do laundry, take a shower, get an ID, receive mail, search for housing, use phones and computers, and get connected to vital services, including three of our internal housing programs. Most importantly, we help people feel human again. We support individuals wherever they are on their journey, and we call this radical hospitality. Part of our daily day shelter operations includes providing basic necessities to 80 guests. Socks are one of our most needed items. Individuals experiencing homelessness are regularly exposed to the elements and on their feet, putting them at great physical risk for a host of illnesses, not to mention the emotional impacts of having chronically cold, wet feet. Having a pair of clean, dry socks is critical. We are so grateful for Subaru's ongoing support of our shared neighbors experiencing homelessness, including this year's donation of hundreds (!) of new socks. This not only helps meet the basic needs of the human beings we serve, but it also allows staff members to focus on the collection of less critical items, preserving limited resources. The Haven works to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring for our neighbors. Subaru's commitment to supporting our efforts over the course of multiple years by offering compassion as well as practical goods is deeply impactful!

The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA rescued Chickadee, a nine-month-old Chihuahua/Terrier mix from a nearby shelter that was unable to care for her medical needs. Although she was young, Chickadee's eyes were enlarged and she was diagnosed with glaucoma. Glaucoma is a very painful condition that causes a build-up of fluid and pressure in the eye. The pressure causes damage to the eye, and can eventually cause blindness and require removal of the eye. This was the case for Chickadee. Our veterinarian determined she needed to have both eyes removed in order to live a more comfortable life. While Chickadee was recovering from her surgery, she was placed in a foster home. During this time, we were participating in the Subaru Loves Pets campaign and were promoting some of our "underdogs." Chickadee fell into this category because of her medical condition and lack of vision. In the meantime, Chickadee was flourishing in her foster home. She was learning to navigate the backyard and was using the other dogs' scents to stay with the pack. Despite now being able to see, Chickadee was trusting and even relaxed around the other dogs and cat in her foster home. Once our veterinarian examined Chickadee a few weeks after her surgery and cleared her for adoption, her new humans decided to make it official! Chickadee has now settled into her forever home. We wouldn't be able to care for special needs animals like Chickadee and find them wonderful homes without partnerships like the one we have with Subaru. The exposure and attention our animals get during the campaign is proven to help them find homes and the donation made to the SPCA will help us continue saving the lives of countless animals moving forward. From Chickadee, and all of our "underdogs," we appreciate Subaru and everything they do to help animals.

One of the most important ways we work to support the community is through outreach and assistance for local, worthwhile, nonprofit causes. To that end, we recently visited the team at The Haven, a local shelter that's near and dear to our hearts, with a donation of blankets. The Haven works with the area homeless population, providing resources, care, and comfort. Our blankets, emblazoned with the Subaru logo, are one of the ways we strive to help The Haven in their worthwhile mission, and as part of our endeavor to do our best to help end homelessness in our area. If you're interested in learning more about The Haven, we can help. The shelter gladly accepts donations of time or fundraising from the broader Ruckersville and Earlysville area, and it's a great way to reach out and show your passion for helping people in need from our communities. Of course, Subaru has a long history of helping out in communities across the country, and we're proud to be a part of the carmaker's longstanding tradition of both outreach and nonprofit giving. Every year, Subaru donates supplies, including our blankets, and funds to nonprofit organizations and worthwhile causes here in Charlottesville, and across the United States. This includes national charities and causes, such as the Make A Wish organization, and it also includes local groups that are handpicked by neighborhood dealerships, such as our donation to The Haven. As always, we're excited to be a part of the Subaru legacy and we're proud to be your neighbors, working and living in the greater Crozet area. Let's work together to support those who support our community, such as The Haven. You can contact us or our friends at The Haven to learn more about who they are, what they do, and how you can help.

Thanks to the support of Umansky Subaru of Charlottesville, Rocky(now named Mac) was one of the lucky dogs to find a home this October! Rocky was having such a difficult time in the kennel, surrounded by loud noises and unfamiliar people. He was in the shelters care for several months, just waiting for the right family to come along. Rocky, quickly renamed Mac by his adopters, now is thriving in his new home, with 2 dog siblings.

Umansky Subaru recently held a new car clinic in collaboration with the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA. Our team is dedicated to our #SubaruLovePromise to show love and respect to all people at every interaction with Subaru. Approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Umansky Subaru's new car clinic with SPCA gave customers a chance to shop for a new vehicle and potentially a new furry friend. Approximately 4.1 million shelter animals are adopted each year (2 million dogs and 2.1 million cats). Keep adopting! #SubaruLovePromise

The Board and Staff of the Ronald McDonald House work very hard to provide a caring "home away from home" for families who travel to Charlottesville to be near their hospitalized children. We offer them the lodging they need to stay close to their children at UVA Children's Hospital without incurring the cost of a hotel. But beyond that, our families find a haven of caring where they can relax, interact with other families in a like situation, do laundry, enjoy their meals, and receive the support and attention of staff. Thank you so much for your generous donation on March 18th, 2021 through the magnificent Share the Love program. The funds we have received from this program over the past few years have sustained our meals from the Heart program. Without donations such as yours, we would not be able to fulfill our mission to support the health and well-being of the children and their families we serve. We appreciate your partnership in this endeavor.

Thank you to Subaru of America and Umansky Subaru of Charlottesville for supporting Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry. Your gift helps us continue our mission of giving food with kindness and compassion. In 2020, Loaves & Fishes provided two million pounds of healthy groceries to 53,616 people in our community. Foundation, business, church, civic, and individual donations have allowed us to hire a dietitian to ensure that our grocery carts are not just filled with food but filled with nutritionally balanced offerings. To help us provided even more fresh food, we raised funding to triple our refrigeration and double our freezer storage. We have made alterations to our building that make it more energy efficient so we can spend our dollars on what pantry visitors need most, food. Going forward, we want to continue to increase access to healthy food for anyone needing assistance. We are translating information about our operation into multiple languages, sourcing food that appeals to our ethnically diverse community, and developing a system for visitors to be able to self-schedule grocery pick-up appointments. With support from people like you, we know we will continue to be a caring community partner. On behalf of the staff, volunteers, and board of directors, thank you for supporting our efforts with your generous donation. Jane Colony Mills Executive Director

2020 began with great enthusiasm and quickly moved to a daily uptick in uncertainly, fear, unemployment, and illness. It has been a difficult time for everyone. Luckily, the Ronald McDonald House of Charlottesville (RMH-C) has been able to continue with its mission to provide lodging, meals, and encouragement for the families of seriously ill and injured children receiving treatment at UVA Children’s Hospital. However, the House needed to make a number of significant changes to its operations to do this. Included in these changes was the need to restrict all outside visitors to the House - including volunteers. An immediate impact of this latter decision was to put an end to the wonderful brunches, lunches, and dinners volunteers would make for the families. RMH-C had to work quickly to source fresh meals that could be pre-packed in individual servings and delivered to the House. It also needed to fill in all of the gaps in the pantry/fridge food supply system usually provided by faithful volunteers, such as milk, eggs, cheese, yogurt, etc. All of this has been an extremely expensive – but absolutely necessary - venture. The Share the Love dollars help to fill the gap between what had been budgeted for food-related expenses and the actual cost of food expenses incurred to date in 2020. This donation is a Blessing – with a capital “B”. Without the funds from the 2019 Share the Love program 2020 would be very bleak, indeed, for the House. The RMH-C has had to cancel its fundraising events for the year. Dollars received in support of our program are always precious to the House, but this is particularly true this year. As we continue to fulfill our mission we realize that it is only through partners like Subaru of America and Umansky Subaru of Charlottesville that we are able to do this. We are most appreciative. Umansky Subaru again this year was the main sponsor for the Marshall Watson Memorial Scholarship Fund. The event was a huge success this year that was put on at Greene Hills Country Club. The event raised enough money to increase the value of each scholarship.

This year we were the main sponsor for the Marshall Watson Memorial tournament. This event not only honored an amazing man in our community but also gave out a scholarship to local high school students planning on attending college in the fall. As the main sponsor, we sponsored 4 holes with a donation, signs, and prizes. We displayed A brand New Forester and had gifts to hand out. This was an amazing event and raised enough money to add another scholarship this year !! We plan to be apart of this again this coming year

On Thursday, July 19, 2018, Umansky Subaru General Sales Manager Ray Powdrell and his team partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to deliver 80 blankets to the Emily Couric Cancer Center in Charlottesville, VA. The blankets served as a sign of warmth and love for cancer patients there, to let them know that there are others in the community thinking of them during their journey. In addition to the blankets, Subaru collected Care Cards, which were messages of hope written by their customers during the month of June as part of the Subaru Loves To Care initiative. The delivery in Charlottesville was truly special because we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visits patients one-on-one. In preparation, all parties present during the delivery took part in forming an assembly line to construct packages. Subaru had leftover shopping bags from their June event, so we made kits for each patient which included a blanket, Care Care card, button, and an LLS wristband. The team divided and conquered the second-floor unit to distribute the goods. Many patients had their families present during those visiting hours, so it was really special to present the gift not only to the patient but to their families as well.
